El Bosquet

A few kilometres south of the town centre of Moixent is the Bosquet area. Moixent has historically been a dry land that has had difficulty in introducing irrigation in the plateaus and mountain ranges that make up most of its municipal area. The reservoir is located in the centre of an enclosed basin, between the Picaio, Talaia, Corvatelles and Balarma Mountains.

The Bosquet reservoir is a natural site of exceptional interest. The dam of this historic reservoir, made of hydraulic masonry, was declared Asset of Cultural Interest by the Regional Ministry of Culture in 2005, declared as a monument, as it is of great hydrological interest as it is one of the few works of this type in the Valencian Community.

It belongs to the group of low-fluctuation reservoirs, its soil is protected and it is included in the catalogue of wetlands of the Valencian Community.

Its function was to retain the river and spring water to irrigate the vegetable gardens and to make the town’s mills work. The holm oaks of great longevity and size, together with the pines, make up the main forest masses in the surrounding area. A beautiful place that invites you to practice activities in a natural environment of high ecological value.
