Moixent
Moixent is a historic municipality in la Costera region located between the towns of Vallada and LaFont de la Figuera, at the foot of the Serra Grossa mountain. It has an extensive municipal area where the traditional agriculture of vineyards, olive trees and other crops give way to the new sustainable economies: rural farmhouses, caving, cycling and wine tourism. Here some of the best wines of the Valencian territory are produced.
Moixent has been populated by numerous cultures because of its strategic location and this is attested by the archaeological remains, ranging from the Paleolithic to the Bronze Age. One of the most interesting and important places is the Iberian site of Bastida de les Alcusses, where the famous Warrior of Moixent was found, currently exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Valencia.
On a small headland located in the southeast of the town are the ruins of the castle. It consisted of two enclosures, and you can still see some sections of the wall that went down towards the town and the remains of towers. The Mora tower or torre dels Coloms is the only piece that remains standing. Just below this tower is the Cova del Pare Moreno (Pare Moreno cave). Strolling through its surroundings we find l’Assut i el Bosquet, a charming corner surrounded by pine trees with a reservoir.
Within the urban area we can visit the Archaeological Museum of Moixent, where the tourist information office is located. The museum allows us to take a tour through the rich history of Moixent, with pieces coming mainly from two important Iberian sites: the Bastida de les Alcusses and the Corral de Saus Necropolis.
Between Moixent and La Font de la Figuera we find one of the most beautiful places that we can see in Valencian lands. It is the Valley of Les Alcusses: a living landscape, shaped by man and of interest to nature lovers and viticulture. A cultural landscape formed by fields of vineyards, olive trees, almond trees, cereal crops and pine forests, interspersed with historic farmhouses scattered throughout a territory of great beauty.
